COBOL Bookstore

Welcome!

You have found my home on the Internet! If you are looking for the Author of "Sams Teach Yourself COBOL in 24 Hours", and contributing author to "COBOL Unleashed", then you have found the right place. I'm glad to have you visit!

Full time, my job is that of a programmer/analyst. I work on a variety of platforms, varying in size and scope from PC's to large mainframes running the latest IBM operating systems.

Most of my work is started as helping friends by writing systems to help them in their businesses or hobbies. To that end, I have written systems that handle Archery shoots, and the management of Bowling centers. I have also written communications programs to automate the transmission of statement data for billing systems. In the arena of stand alone products that I have developed, there is a system that translated FAA formatted Aviation weather into English, and a system that handles pedigree information for cat breeders.

The weather product died a horrible death at market when the FAA started giving away plain language briefings for free. Even so, my system was language context sensitive, and remains more accurate than the free FAA versions.

The important thing about all this work at home, is that it is mostly using COBOL. COBOL the once thought dead programming language, that has survived and flourished over the years, is ideally suited to each of the projects described above.

Recently, I have had the opportunity to share my love for this language with the general public by writing about it in "COBOL Unleashed" and in "Sams Teach Yourself COBOL in 24 Hours". If you are interested in either one of these books, follow my bookstore link above.

In the downloads area, I provide some programming examples, and sample applications. These are constantly being updated.
